Iron Shield: Submit a Nomination

–Nominations are due May 21, 2021–

Dear friends:

Annually, the Iron Shield (formerly Cross) Society seeks nominations of undergraduate students with an anticipated graduation date of either December or May believed to have outstanding academic, leadership and service achievements on campus and in the community.

The Iron Shield Society, a highly selective honor society, was established in 1902 to recognize exemplary students. Throughout its history, the Iron Shield Society has addressed many issues facing the student body by working with the university administration and the state legislature. The building of the Memorial Union was, in part, an initiative of Iron Shield (then Cross). Distinguished alumni include Senator Russ Feingold ’75 and, former UW Athletic Director Pat Richter ’63.

Iron Shield is unique because faculty members, academic staff, student leaders and student organizations are all asked to nominate students to the Iron Shield Society. While GPA is taken into consideration, selection of members is based more on students’ extracurricular and community accomplishments.

Nominations should include the following information: student’s name, email address, year in school, how you know the student (2-4 sentences) and reason for nominating the student (2-4 sentences).

If you have any further questions, call (608) 263-4463 or email uwironcross@gmail.com.  Please feel free to share this information with colleagues.

Thank you for your time!

Sincerely,
Iron Shield Society Members
