The Memorial Union offers a variety of social and educational activities for UW students, faculty, staff, Wisconsin Union Members, and the Madison community.
Opened on October 5, 1928, the Memorial Union sits on the shores of Lake Mendota between Helen C. White Library and the Armory (Red Gym). This building is most recognized for its classic architecture and bright green, orange and yellow sunburst Memorial Union Terrace chairs.
The recently completed Phase I of the Memorial Union Reinvestment (MUR) focused on the west wing of the Memorial Union, which now features reimagined spaces, dramatically improved accessibility and a host of other improvements.

The final phases of MUR, beginning in fall 2015, will focus on the central core and east wing of the building, including The Terrace.
