The Memorial Union offers a variety of social and educational activities for UW students, faculty, staff, Wisconsin Union Members, and the Madison community.
Opened on October 5, 1928, the Memorial Union sits on the shores of Lake Mendota between Helen C. White Library and the Armory (Red Gym). This building is most recognized for its classic architecture and bright green, orange and yellow sunburst Terrace chairs.
Phase I of the Memorial Union Reinvestment (MUR) completed in April 2014, focused on the west wing of the Memorial Union, which now features reimagined spaces, dramatically improved accessibility and a host of other improvements.
The final phases of MUR, which started in fall of 2015, focus on improvements throughout the central core and east wing of the building, including the Terrace. The Memorial Union Terrace reopened in May 2016 in time for graduating seniors to celebrate their accomplishments at one of everyone's favorite campus destinations.
Above hours include Memorial Day and 4th of July.
