The new Union South was designed in an organic prairie-style, influenced by the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright. Opened on April 15, 2011, it is nestled between the Computer Sciences and Statistics Building and Engineering Hall on the south side of campus.
The new building carries on the Wisconsin Union tradition of serving as the heart and soul of this great campus.
While the student-led design committee sought a minimum of a silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating, Union South far surpassed their expectations receiving a gold LEED rating in sustainability and environmental design. It features sustainable materials and technologies that have a proven track record and ensures the facility can adapt over a 100-year lifetime to incorporate new “green” technologies as they become available.
