The Wisconsin Union’s winter-themed event series, called Winter Carnival, will continue Feb. 7-10 during warmer-than-usual weather conditions with a modified events schedule that includes more than a dozen events, including an appearance of part of an inflatable version of Lady Liberty at Library Mall, rather than on Lake Mendota. Events previously scheduled to take place on Lake Mendota have been moved or canceled due to thinning ice. 

The Winter Carnival lineup currently includes:

African dance, contemporary choreography and spoken word will come together during the Feb. 18 performance of award-winning choreography by Ronald K. Brown and dance company EVIDENCE at Memorial Union. 

Founded by Brown, EVIDENCE has performed modern dance worldwide for 39 years. In those 39 years, Brown strived to shine a spotlight on the beauty of African forms and rhythms.

Entrepreneur and yoga instructor Jessamyn Stanley will share her thoughts on inclusive wellness approaches and intersectionality at Tripp Commons in Memorial Union Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. as part of the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) Committee's free lecture lineup.

Described as open, curious, and spontaneous, the Schumann Quartet, which has been appointed for residencies at Wigmore Hall and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, will take center stage at the Wisconsin Union Theater’s Shannon Hall in Memorial Union on Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m.

The Wisconsin Union’s winter-themed event series, called Winter Carnival, will make its return to Madison for its 84th year Feb. 7-10, 2024, bringing with it both indoor and outdoor winter-themed activities, including the appearance of a beloved Carnival tradition: Lady Liberty on Lake Mendota.

The Winter Carnival lineup currently includes:

A concert celebrating the 85th anniversary of the longest-running jazz label in the world, called Blue Note Records, will come to Madison, Wisconsin, on Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Wisconsin Union Theater’s (WUT's) Jazz Series.

The Isidore String Quartet — and its mission to reinvigorate chamber music repertoire with new approaches to classical music and an embrace of contemporary classical music — comes to Shannon Hall in Madison on Dec. 8 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Appearing as part of the Wisconsin Union Theater’s (WUT’s) Classical Series, formerly called the Concert Series, the ensemble will perform:

Award-winning author Jason Stanley will speak at the Marquee Cinema in Union South Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. on the mechanics of propaganda as part of the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) Committee's free lecture lineup.

Known for her work championing inclusivity within the running world, Alison Mariella Désir will share her insight at a free Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) Committee-hosted event on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Union’s Great Hall.

The University Veteran Services and Wisconsin Union teams at the University of Wisconsin–Madison invite the public to recognize veterans and service members during the Veterans Day Recognition Breakfast on Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. in the Main Lounge at Memorial Union.
