This Juilliard School-born quartet's mission is to reinvigorate the classic chamber repertoire.

Fresh from a 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant win, the Isidore String Quartet “are a talented young ensemble to watch” (Chicago Classical Review). After forming at The Juilliard School (and inspired by the Juilliard Quartet including its legendary violinist Isidore Cohen), the New York–based quartet is on a mission, in its own words, “to revisit, rediscover, and reinvigorate the repertoire.” Approaching the time-honored classics as though they were new and recent compositions as though they were already classics, the quartet hopes to spark both curiosity and appreciation with every note.

A look into the repertoire:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | String Quartet No. 19 in C Major, K. 465, “Dissonance”

Billy Childs | String Quartet No. 2, “Awakening”

Johannes Brahms | String Quartet in A Minor, Op. 51, No. 2

This event is part of the annual Classical Series. Subscriptions for the 2023-2024 Classical Series are available for purchase now through September 28; single tickets to this performance will go on sale June 16.
