Posted: 01/22/25

We are thrilled to announce that the iconic Brooklyn-based hip-hop duo, Smif-N-Wessun, will perform at the Play Circle on Thursday, Feb. 13! Known for its groundbreaking beats and lyrical prowess, Smif-N-Wessun has been a staple in the hip-hop community since the release of its iconic album, “Dah Shinin’.” This performance is part of the Wisconsin Union’s Black Box Sessions, bringing the best of early-aughts hip-hop to Madison.
In addition to its upcoming performance, Smif-N-Wessun is set to release its highly anticipated eighth album, “Infinity,” on Feb. 21. This album marks the 30th anniversary of the duo’s groundbreaking debut, “Dah Shinin’.” Fans can enjoy the first single, “Infinity,” which dropped on Jan. 10, followed by the release of “Elephant In The Room” on Feb. 7, both produced by Khrysis. This album is a testament to the group’s staying power and dedication to its roots, featuring collaborations with renowned MCs like Pharoahe Monch and production by 9th Wonder and the Soul Council.
This exciting new event comes as a replacement for a performance by th1rt3en, which had to cancel its performance due to unforeseen circumstances. While we are disappointed that th1rt3en cannot join us, we are equally excited to welcome Smif-N-Wessun to the stage.

The Wisconsin Union Theater’s Black Box Sessions is dedicated to bringing intimate, high-energy performances to the black box theater, called the Play Circle, and to celebrating the best in music from various genres.
Smif-N-Wessun’s performance is a perfect fit for this series, offering a nostalgic journey through the early 2000s hip-hop scene. Its presence and music will undoubtedly resonate with fans old and new, making this a must-see event.
Don’t miss out on the chance to check out a performance by Smif-N-Wessun live at the Play Circle on Feb. 13. Get your tickets now, and be part of an unforgettable night of hip-hop history!
