Estelí Gomez has been described as “a soprano with a floating, angelic voice and a powerful presence…" (I Care if You Listen). Gomez is a founding member of the acclaimed vocal ensemble, Roomful of Teeth, renowned for its explorative approach to vocal expression. Since 2019, she has been an esteemed faculty member at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wisconsin, adored by her students and the Fox Valley community. Next Spring, we will have the chance to hear this local superstar perform with Roomful of Teeth right here in downtown Madison.
Since graduating from Yale and McGill Universities, Gomez has gathered acclaim all over the world, including the 2011 Canticum Gaudium International Early Music Vocal Competition in Poland. On the national stage, Gomez has garnered widespread recognition. She has contributed to a Pulitzer Prize-winning composition with Roomful of Teeth, and her talent shines bright with two GRAMMY wins and three nominations.
This year, she won a GRAMMY with Roomful of Teeth for her collaboration on “Rough Magic”. You can watch the acceptance speech here:
In addition to her long list of accomplishments, Gomez continues to make waves in the world of music while teaching and performing around the country. She recently co-authored a book entitled “Historical Performance and New Music,” influencing the way music is taught in higher education. The book is the first of its kind, and is an expert analysis of the intersection of historical performance and new music featuring leading scholars and artists.
Estelí Gomez is truly a representation of history in the making in our very own Wisconsin, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome a local star to the Shannon Hall stage on April 9 with Roomful of Teeth. You can save your seat for the performance here.
