Behind the Beat: Madison-based yacht rock band

Luke Leavitt and the Levitations met in an experimental elementary school in Stockholm run by Moki Cherry. There they forgot some modes, ate noodles, and played musical chairs. When they graduated, their families went separate ways. Ari took up composition lessons behind a shroud; Andy syncopated himself on a rapidly diminishing glacier; and Sahada put a twist in the neck of her violin. Meanwhile, Matty, in bathrobe, drummed for chi, as Maggie, with the beauty of their alto, gave US diplomats brain damage. In Havana. And finally, Luke took a walk with Stroom in his earbuds. After several personal disasters, they all ended up in the Midwest. Drawing on their childhood bond, they decided to regroup to play yacht rock.
