Author and civil rights activist Ruby Bridges will speak at Shannon Hall in Memorial Union on April 8th at 7 p.m. on equality, education, and community as part of the Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) Committee's free lecture lineup, in collaboration with WUD Society and Politics.

The event, titled “A Fireside Chat With Ruby Bridges, will feature a 60-minute moderated Q&A followed by a 30-minute audience Q&A. 

Bridges is the author of several books reflecting on her experiences and encouraging civic engagement, including Through My Eyes, This Is Your Time, I Am Ruby Bridges, Dear Ruby, Hear Our Hearts, and her most recent release, A Talk My Teacher, published in January 2025.  Ruby Bridges is the recipient of the AACP Martin Luther King Award, the Presidential Citizens Medal, and honorary doctorate degrees from Connecticut College, College of New Rochelle, Teachers College, Columbia University, and Tulane University. She was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in March 2024.

The use of any recording devices during the event, including but not limited to, cell phones, video cameras, or digital recorders is not permitted during Ms. Bridges speaking engagement.
