The Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Film Committee will host a free sneak preview showing of the horror movie “Don’t Breathe” Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Marquee Theater at Union South.

In the film, a trio of friends break into the house of a wealthy blind man, thinking they’ll get away with the perfect heist. They’re wrong.

Moviegoers have the chance to see this film a full two weeks before it hits theaters.

The Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) invites past and present Directorate team members and Hoofer alumni to a reunion Nov 9-11, 2017.

Registration for the Wisconsin Union and Memorial Union Building Association (MUBA)-hosted event opens June 2017.

Reunion events will include a tour of Union South and the restored Memorial Union. The tours will introduce members to the Union South that was opened in 2011 and the more recently restored Memorial Union. This will show the alumni how valuable and lasting their efforts continue to be.

Wheelhouse on Wheels, a drop-in art program, now takes place on the Memorial Union Terrace every Wednesday until July 27 from 4-7 p.m. Wheelhouse on Wheels gives patrons an opportunity to explore their creativity by participating in a variety of arts and crafts projects.

Wheelhouse on Wheels’ successful debut on June 15 included creating and decorating bubble wands. About 85 guests participated in the project, which sent soapy bubbles flying over the newly renovated space.

The Wisconsin Union’s Outdoor UW will host all-level yoga on the Terrace and standup paddleboard (SUP) yoga classes on Lake Mendota this summer six days per week from June 4 to September 5.

Terrace yoga will be available to anyone looking to start their day by taking time for wellness at everyone’s favorite place on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. Outdoor UW offers online registration and same-day, drop-in registration, as space allows, at a cost of $7 per class.

The Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Film Committee invites Wisconsin Union members and their guests to experience a Terrace After Dark season that features both a film series for people of all ages as well as a series dedicated to films through the decades.

WUD Film proudly introduces Lakeside Family Films, a new series that offers family-friendly films on select Sundays at 8:30 p.m. This summer’s lineup includes “The Incredibles”, “The Muppet Movie”, “Pokémon the Movie 2000”, “The Iron Giant” and “Zootopia”.

After winning all three national qualifiers by huge margins in April, the Wisconsin Sailing Team is now competing in the 2016 College Sailing National Championship May 24-June 4 in San Diego.

The sailing team, which is part of the Wisconsin Union Hoofer Sailing Club, includes both co-ed and women’s competitive teams consisting of 45 sailing team members.

According to Head Coach and Program Manager Dave Elsmo, winning all national qualifiers is very unusual in the competitive sailing community—especially for a team from the Midwest.

A new, sustainable, vegetarian dish, created through a UW-Madison collaboration, will be available at the Wisconsin Union’s Ginger Root regularly in fall 2016 and occasionally throughout this summer.

Guests enjoyed “Crispy, Golden Tofu” at Ginger Root in Union South for one week in April. This sustainable dish was created by Badgers, for Badgers.

The Memorial Union Terrace will remain open after what the Wisconsin Union anticipated would be a temporary closing after graduation weekend.

The Wisconsin Union team anticipates that small portions of the Terrace may intermittently close throughout summer 2016. Continued construction includes the installation of personalized pavers on the Terrace.

“After experiencing guest traffic during graduation weekend, it was determined that Terrace construction will not significantly disrupt our guests,” Wisconsin Union Director Mark Guthier said.

On August 31, 2015, the sun set on the Memorial Union Terrace that guests had known for decades. Away went the sunburst chairs with the Wisconsin’s Union’s promise of a reappearance in summer 2016. This May, the chairs will return along with events and dining options guests know and love plus some new Terrace activities.

“Mixing Terrace traditions with new experiences will make for an unforgettable summer at the Memorial Union,” Wisconsin Union Director Mark Guthier said. “We’re honoring our history but also building on it to create an even better experience.”

Weekend to Include Live Music, Cap Decorating, Giant Sunburst Chair Photo Opportunities

The Wisconsin Union will offer special events, promotions, photo opportunities and lifetime memberships to graduating seniors during graduation weekend at Union South and Memorial Union.
