Grammy-winning jazz bassist and composer Linda May Han Oh, whose bass playing is featured in Disney and Pixar’s 2020 film “Soul” and who served as the performance model for the film’s bassist Miho, will perform Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Play Circle Theater at Memorial Union. The concert is part of the Wisconsin Union Theater’s (WUT’s) 2026-27 Jazz Series.
Oh is known for compositions and performances that draw from jazz, bebop, ska, grunge and other music traditions. Born in Malaysia, raised in Perth, Australia, and now based in New York City, she has performed and recorded with many renowned artists, including Terri Lyne Carrington, Vijay Iyer and Pat Metheny.
Oh received a Grammy Award as a member of the ensemble featured on Carrington’s album “New Standards Vol. 1,” which won Best Jazz Instrumental Album in 2023. She has also released multiple albums as a bandleader. In 2026, she received a Guggenheim Fellowship for music composition, and she teaches at Berklee College of Music. She also recently performed at the Newport Jazz Festival.
“Linda May Han Oh is someone we’ve been wanting to have perform as part of a Wisconsin Union Theater season for a long time,” WUT Director Elizabeth Snodgrass said. “She is one of the most sought-after jazz bassists around. She is so versatile and draws from so many styles, from ska to grunge to bebop and more.”
Tickets are $15 for current UW–Madison students, $20 for other students and guests ages 17 and younger, $66 for Wisconsin Union lifetime and annual members, and $72 for the general public.
