The Attacca Quartet and Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Caroline Shaw will perform a program entirely of Shaw’s music in Shannon Hall at Memorial Union on April 16 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Wisconsin Union Theater (WUT) Classical Series.
The program will feature “Blueprint,” “Cant voi l’aube,” “Three Essays,” “And So,” “The Evergreen” and “Other Song” from the 2022 Attacca Quartet and Shaw album “Evergreen,” released with Nonesuch Records.
Shaw is one of the youngest recipients of the Pulitzer Prize for Music, awarded in 2013, and she was recently named the holder of the 2026-2027 Richard and Barbara Debs Composer’s Chair by Carnegie Hall.
The Attacca Quartet has earned international recognition for its innovation, expressiveness and technical precision. Attacca Quartet members include violinists Amy Schroeder and Domenic Salerni, violist Nathan Schram and cellist Andrew Yee. The quartet’s discography includes recordings of works by some of history’s most renowned composers, from the classics to contemporary compositions.
“We are excited for the return of Caroline Shaw to Shannon Hall, this time with Shaw’s kindred spirit string quartet, Attacca,” WUT Director Elizabeth Snodgrass said. “Shaw and Attacca Quartet started collaborating after the quartet heard Shaw’s Pulitzer Prize-winning piece, ‘Partita for 8 Voices,’ performed by Shaw’s a cappella vocal ensemble, Roomful of Teeth. Since then, they've recorded two albums, ‘Orange’ and ‘Evergreen.’ The music is accessible without being pedantic.”
Tickets can be purchased online, in person at the Memorial Union Box Office or by phone at (608) 265-2787.
