Prohibited Photography and Videography

  • Under no circumstances will any photography or videography be permitted on the Hoofers, Goodspeed, swimming or Outdoor UW piers near Memorial Union. 
  • Capturing photography or videography for the purpose of selling those images or footage or monetizing resulting photos or video is prohibited by University policy: https://policy.wisc.edu/library/UW-202. Doing so in violation of policy and potentially trademark law may result in legal action. 
  • Capturing photography or videography for the promotion of a business, organization, person, artist, band, or non UW-Madison entity. Doing so in violation of policy and potentially trademark law may result in legal action. 
  • Drone use over University property for the purpose of filming is generally not permissible per University policy: https://policy.wisc.edu/library/UW-202

Professional Photography and Filming

Non-media professional photographers and videographers, complete the form before capturing any images or video on Union/UW-Madison property.

Our team will review your form responses and be in contact with you soon with a decision. Please allow at least three, non-holiday business days (Monday-Friday) for a response. 

By completing the form below, you agree that your effort will NOT:

  • Disrupt the routine functioning of the Wisconsin Union
  • Interfere with patrons and their right to privacy.
  • Interrupt patrons' experiences
  • Include any of the aforementioned prohibited efforts 
  • Violate UW-Madison or Wisconsin Union policies
  • Violate laws, including but not limited to trademark usage laws
  • Impact egress or safety 
  • Require patrons to relocate

You also agree to adhere to staff requests on-site to modify your effort.

Journalists Only 

Journalists with questions about photography or videography at Memorial Union, Union South or other Wisconsin Union-run spaces, such as the Fluno Center, can contact our communications director at sbreneman@wisc.edu. Journalists do not need to complete the form below.

Building management may make contact with journalists to ensure adherence to campus photography and videography policies. Advance outreach can help minimize interruptions to journalists' work. Thank you.
