In his more than fifty-year career, Guthrie has established a legacy as one of the world’s most esteemed folk singers. Like his father, depression-era bard Woody Guthrie, Arlo is known for his anthems highlighting social injustice.
From the Americana classic “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree” to “Massachusetts,” Guthrie’s powerful--and sometimes satirical--writing has inspired the progressive movement in the United States and beyond. With nearly 30 albums and countless performances on the world’s most famous stages, Arlo Guthrie is as gifted as he is iconic. The Independent recently reviewed his performance, calling it “…the most enjoyable and authoritative master class on 20th-centrury American folk music one could possibly have.”
Woody Guthrie hoped to one day have enough kids to form a family band, traveling the country and singing their songs together – Generations. This tour does exactly that.
This performance is presented by the Wisconsin Union Theater’s Performing Arts Committee. This concert was supported in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin and the National Endowment for the Arts and the Wisconsin Arts Board.
