Inside the WUDwork with Our Advisors

Meet the WUD Advisors!

While the Wisconsin Union Directorate is a student-led organization, we couldn't do what we do without the support of our amazing advisors. Whether they're providing programming advice, listening to our troubles, or joining in our shenanigans, our advisors help our students feel prepared to reach their goals.

Courtney Byelich, WUD Music Program AdvisorCourtney

How long have you worked at the Wisconsin Union?

"6 years."

What is your favorite part about being an advisor?

"My favorite part about being an advisor is that no two days are the same. WUD Music hosts a huge variety of concerts, programmed by students who are at all sorts of different skill levels and who have all sorts of different interests. I’m always learning something new – and helping students to create great programs for the campus community."

JIllJill Griffis, Hoofer Mountaineering/Ski & Snowboard Program Advisor & Technical Instructor

How long have you worked at the Wisconsin Union?

"2.5 years."

What is your favorite part about being an advisor?

"I most enjoy getting to work with students that come to me with wild ideas to help make them a reality.  It makes my job challenging and I see so much growth for both that student and for those that enjoy the fruits of their labor as well."

Will2Will Hoffman, Alternative Breaks/Distinguished Lecture Series Program Advisor

How long have you worked at the Wisconsin Union?

"Almost 3 years."

What is your favorite part about being an advisor?

"Working with our students and sharing in their triumphs and enthusiasm is probably my real favorite, but I expect you'll have heard that already.  So other than that???  Another part of my role as an advisor which I enjoy is being able to support the development of community for campus and building opportunities for student growth and learning."

JIm

Jim Rogers, WUD Publications/WUD Society & Politics Program Advisor

How long have you worked at the Wisconsin Union?

"A long time. I knew Mark Guthier’s predecessor. And the prior predecessor."

What is your favorite part about being an advisor?

"My favorite part of being an advisor is working with the incredibly outstanding student leaders we have. Yes, we focus on tasks and work to help their committee student leaders be effective but I also learn so much in informal conversations about so many more interesting topics. I actually do keep in contact with so many of our former leaders. (As of when I am writing, I had a 1.5 hour phone conversation with a prior Director yesterday who is currently living in Luxembourg, and 3 days before that had a 3 hour conversation with a prior Director also living abroad back who was back to the states for a couple of weeks.) Their life journeys (figuratively and literally) inspire me."

Mary Russell, Director of Education and Art Programs Mary

"Watching students grow into their leadership abilities throughout the year."
