Inside the WUDwork with Francesca Pessarelli

Meet Francesca pessarelli, Our WUD Art Committee Director!

Year in school: SeniorFrancesca
Majors: Art History and French with Certificates in Classical Studies and Leadership

How long have you been a member of WUD/Hoofers?

"I have been a member of WUD Art for three years."

Why did you join WUD/Hoofers?

"I joined WUD Art because I found out about the opportunity to be an installations AD from my academic advisor. The opportunity seemed like an interesting opportunity to build professional skills in art handling so I decided to apply. I got the position and have been hooked ever since."

What do you do in your role with WUD/Hoofers?

"As Art Committee Director, I do a lot of things. I manage committee meetings and a team of Associate Directors and volunteers in order to get art from proposal stage to opening reception stage. I plan opening receptions, special events, and manage general committee logistical tasks. I am basically the committee mom so I just take things as they’re thrown at me."

What is one of your favorite experiences from your time at WUD/Hoofers?

"My favorite experience from my time at WUD is hard to describe as a single event. I think the best part has really been seeing the changes in myself. I look back at who I was at the beginning of sophomore year and see so much growth since then. I was shy, self conscious, and did not see as my leader. Honestly, my favorite experience has been sitting here as a senior, facing graduation, and knowing that I now have the tools and confidence to move out into the world."

Why is WUD/Hoofers special to you?

"WUD is extraordinarily special because, I not only grew professionally and personally, but I gained a family and support network as well. These past three years, I have been surrounded by some of the most intelligent, hard-working, and inspiring people I have ever met. Being around them has pushed me to work hard and make changes and I don’t think I would have grown half as much if it weren’t for the amazing friends and peers I’ve met along the way."

If there was one thing you could make sure everyone knew about WUD/Hoofers, what would it be?

"I just want everyone to know that WUD is really what you make of it. If you don’t push yourself and bring your passions to the table, it’s honestly just going to be a ton of work. If you put your heart into it and use your values to drive your work, it can be one of the most satisfying experiences you’ll ever have. You will likely never have this kind of support network and comradery with these kinds of resources again so take it and run with it!"
