Inside the WUDwork with Forrest Koslowski

Meet Forrest Koslowski, Our Hoofer Council President!

Year in school: SeniorForrest
Major: Advertising with Certificate in Business and Entrepreneurship

How long have you been a member of WUD/Hoofers?

"I joined Hoofers my sophomore year after receiving a gig as a campus ambassador for Merrell, a shoe hiking company. After getting more involved with the Outing club, I decided to run for president, which led me to my current position as the Council President."

Why did you join WUD/Hoofers?

"The reason I upped my involvement in Hoofers is because it provides an outlet to the outdoors inside a city, like Madison. They provide all the gear, all the knowledge, and all the friends you need to get outdoors and have some fun. There is truly something for everyone in Hoofers. They welcome any and all skill levels with open arms."

What do you do in your role with WUD/Hoofers?

"As Council President, I guide all strategy and policies for Hoofers. Our Club Presidents do the nitty gritty of leading their individual clubs, while on the council level, we think big picture. Some things we are working on currently are website redesigns, policy updates, risk management and education opportunities, and more."

What is one of your favorite experiences from your time at WUD/Hoofers?

"My favorite experience thus far has been leading the Canoe Fall Colors trip with the Outing Club. The Wisconsin River is truly a mystic place, each sandbar promising a unique camping experience. I made some great relationships with my fellow members that weekend."

Why is WUD/Hoofers special to you?

"The Hoofers home base is located on the shore of the beautiful Lake Mendota. As a boy from the countryside, I've always yearned for an outdoor lifestyle. Hoofers has helped fill that need for me during my time in Madison. It is unlike any other club on campus. The autonomy that each club has to program for their members is unique in all college outdoor programs. We also provide leadership opportunities at all levels, meaning that someone can join as a general member and learn all sorts of skills along the way until they are at the highest level of leadership in the club."

If there was one thing you could make sure everyone knew about WUD/Hoofers, what would it be?

"You don't have to be an expert to join! We teach all the skills needed, and have worked tirelessly at developing our rating systems to ensure safety and comfortability for all our members, regardless the skill level. This club changed my entire college experience, so give it a try for yourself!"
