Wisconsin Union Ambassadors Committee Update
The Wisconsin Union team is seeking new partnerships and innovative ways to engage with the community with the assistance of the Wisconsin Union Association’s Wisconsin Union Ambassadors Committee. Formed from an Association restructuring residency, the committee’s members help link the Wisconsin Union’s activities, the Association and the outside world.
“We’re working to build new bridges and engage with community groups,” said Jan Viney, committee staff liaison and the Wisconsin Union donor relations director. “It’s about linking in with the community and relationship-building.”
The relatively new committee held its first meeting in spring 2018 to discuss the group’s goals and ways to achieve those goals through outreach and partnerships. One outcome is a proposal to host an afternoon meet and greet on the Memorial Union Terrace for residents from a local retirement community. During this event, the guests would be joined by trustees and Union staff members get to know one another and to enjoy Summer Serenades, a classical music series.
“It’s possible that these individuals and others in our community may not be aware of events like Summer Serenades and all the other resources available to them through the Union,” Viney said. “With the proposed meet and greet, they get to know us, and we get to know them.”
Viney added that committee members continue to plan new community engagement ideas that have the potential to lead to collaboration and awareness of all that the Union offers to Union members and guests.
“We are a membership organization but all are welcome to join,” Viney said. “With this committee’s work, we are furthering that invitation and ensuring all know they are welcome to be Wisconsin Union members and guests.”
