Raised in Merill, Wisconsin and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Zola Jesus (Nika Roza Danilova—her stage name is a combination of the names of Jesus Christ and French writer Emile Zola), is anything but conventional. She combines electronic, industrial, classical and experimental rock influences in her emotive music and performs for large audiences worldwide. She started singing opera at the age of seven and by the time she was 10 years old she was performing. Jesus has released three EPs and five albums, the latest in 2014. She sings, plays guitar and piano, and her concerts are steeped in strong emotion and distinct and memorable music.
