A descent into Eastern Europe's haunted woodlands uncovers the secrets, fairy tales, and bloody histories that shape our understanding of man's place in nature. (IMDb)

USA | 74 min | NR | HD Projection | Dir. Jessica Oreck

Working in an innovative blending of documentary and animation, The Vanquishing of the Witch Baba Yaga is an exploration of the forests of Eastern Europe, where folk tales are still vibrant and alive, and the ghosts of mythic and Soviet pasts still haunt the land. This compelling examination of the relationship between human beings and their environment, and the way it shapes our stories and understanding of the world is presented in collaboration with the Center for Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian studies, and will feature a Q&A with filmmaker Jessica Oreck post screening.
