With the release of Stomata’s first album, “Standards/Non Standards,” the trio fuses both Modern and Old School reinterpretations of the Jazz Era’s popular music. The album was recorded and mastered to tape at Milwaukee’s National Recording in the same style as the virtuosos who preceded them, keeping with the trio’s respect for tradition. Saxophonist Jay Anderson displays influences of John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Joe Henderson and Kamari Washington. Alongside John Simmons (Bass) and Dave Schoepke (Drum Set), both staples of the Milwaukee Music Scene, Anderson takes a confident step toward representing sublime moments in the history of tenor sax.
