Chamber musicians transform lives through inclusion and social impact.

The self-conducted, professional chamber orchestra of Black and Latinx musicians aspires to advocate for diversity in the arts, transforming lives through the power of inclusion and a commitment to social impact through classical music.

The 18-member string orchestra has a mission to empower their communities and provide a platform for change. Sphinx will perform an inspiring program featuring works by Valerie Coleman, Florence Price, Ginastera, among others. Come savor their vibrant treatment of classical composition and moving artistry.

Collins Recital Hall in The Hamel Music Center 

Join members of this self-conducted professional chamber orchestra of Black and Latinx musicians for a panel discussion covering issues of diversity in classical music and the arts. The conversation will be moderated by newly appointed Director of the Division of the Arts, Christopher Walker. This event is free and open to the public; no tickets are required. Face coverings required for all attendees regardless of vaccination.
