Join us at Babcock Hall Food Lab B141 to prepare three pies inspired by Maya-Camille Broussard's cookbook: "Justice of the Pies". We will have vegetarian options.
Then, come see her in person on October 24th, 2023, during the lecture- "Savoring Success: Maya-Camille Broussard's Insights on Food, Business, and Identity", hosted by the Wisconsin Union Directorate: Distinguished Lecture Series.
Maya-Camille Broussard is the author of Justice of the Pies, a creative entrepreneur, culinary teacher, and the owner of Justice of the Pies, a bakery that specializes in sweet and savory pies, quiches, and tarts. The Chicago-based chef created the company in 2014 in memory of her late father, a criminal defense attorney, and passionate pie maker. Justice of the Pies celebrates his love for pies and honors his belief that everyone deserves a second chance. Formed as an L3C, Justice of the Pies helps combat food apartheid through social-mission-driven initiatives, including the I KNEAD LOVE workshops.
In 2020, Broussard curated a special dessert recipe for the first-ever virtual James Beard Foundation Awards, and Justice of the Pies was recognized by the Illinois Office of Tourism in its Illinois Made program spotlighting the state's makers, creators, and artisans. Named one of 10 Black-owned businesses shaping Chicago by Time Out Magazine, Justice of the Pies is committed to delivering amazing pies, quiches and tarts while positively impacting the lives of others and being stewards for fairness and equality. Fodor's Travel has dubbed the bakery one of 10 best pie shops in America.
