Pint of Knowledge: The Science Behind the Taste of Beer

Lecture & Discussion
Sunday, May 1
3 - 4 pm
Cost: 5.00
We all know, no two beers taste the same…but WHY?

The first program in our Pint of Knowledge Series, The Science Behind the Taste of Beer, will be presented by Page Buchanan, Brewmaster at House of Brews in Madison, James Altwies from Gorst Valley Hops and Andrew Gierczak, co-founder of MobCraft Beer.  We all know, no two beers taste the same…but WHY?

Page will discuss how he approaches formulating beer much like a chef looks at creating a recipe. James Altwies from Gorst Valley will share how brewers are using flavor science to develop beers and he'll share new findings on hop flavors and how they interact chemically in beer over time. Finally, we’ll talk with Andrew about his background as a graduate of the UW-Madison Microbiology Department and his approach to sours and implementing a micro program at Mob Craft.

The presentation will feature samples from MobCraft and House of Brews.
