A free screening of Leave No Trace (2018)

USA | 119 min | PG | DCP | Dir. Debra Granik

Will (Ben Foster) and his teenage daughter, Tom (Thomasin Harcourt McKenzie), have lived off the grid for years in the forests of Portland, Oregon. When their idyllic life is shattered, both are put into social services. After clashing with their new surroundings, Will and Tom set off on a harrowing journey back to their wild homeland.

"Leave No Trace is further evidence Granik is one of the most talented directors around - and Ben Foster ranks among the finest and most intense actors working today." - Richard Roeper (Chicago Sun-Times)

The What is Family? Film Festival will feature 10 films centered around defining family in a modern context. While family in the past was often a rigid term meant for biological relations and what is known as the nuclear family, the films curated in this festival reflect a more fluid definition of family. The stories of these films represent a diverse range of family types from biological to communal, and from extended family to the feeling of family that comes from a best friend. This festival includes films ranging from documentaries and dramas to comedies and thrillers. We hope you will join us in celebrating all the forms of family that are vital to the human experience.

Assistive Screening Accommodations for Patrons with Disability:

  • Closed Captions Available
  • Visually Impaired Audio Description Available
  • Assisted Listening Device Amplification Available

This event is intended for UW-Madison students, faculty, staff and Union members and guests.
