WUDPAC presents two rising voices in R&B and hip hop--Gaidaa and Blvck Svm--for a free show at Memorial Union's Play Circle.
GAIDAA
The 22-year-old Sudanese Dutch grew up in the Netherlands in the small town of Eindhoven where she cultivated her musical talents. Gaidaa first came on the scene in 2018 featuring on Full Crate's "A Storm On A Summer's Day." She released her debut EP, Overture, with positive reviews from Pitchfork, The Fader and an array of other platforms with debut performances and collaborations with COLORS. Gaidaa's "Figures" released in anticipation of her upcoming follow-up EP, slated for 2023. The most recent release, "Transit" was a collaboration with world-renowned producer and DJ, Moby.
BLVCK SVM
Following his graduation from the University of Chicago in 2018, South Florida-raised rapper BlvckSvm found himself struggling to break through as an artist. After losing his job as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, he contemplated quitting music and moving home to find a regular job and apply to grad schools. But ultimately he decided to stay in Chicago and give music one last shot.
Svm decided to release a series of biweekly singles as a last-ditch effort to rejuvenate his career. The first single of that series, “Bleach,” released March 2020, caught fire a few months after its release, and it completely changed his trajectory. After 3+ years of consistent releases, Svm has propelled himself into the full-time rapper position he has always envisioned.
