An official Marquee International Film Festival selection
USA, Ukraine | 100 min | DCP| Dir. Steve Hoover
In documentary Crocodile Gennadiy, Gennadiy Mokhnenko has made a name for himself by forcibly abducting homeless drug-addicted kids from the streets of Mariupol, Ukraine. As his country leans towards a European Union inclusion, hopes of continued post-Soviet revitalization seem possible. In the meantime, Gennadiy’s center has evolved into a more nebulous institution (The Orchard). "There have been numerous criticisms of Mokhnenko's tactics over the years... But one has to wonder: if Hoover's side shows a man striving to ensure that children no longer die in the streets from drug addiction, who's on the other side?"(Casey Cipriani, Indiewire).
