An increasing number of investors, currently being led by the millennials, are demanding more from their investments than simple financial return. They also want their investments to support companies that are "making a difference" in the world. Investment decisions of these new investors are directed toward companies that have a clear position on a sustainability issue, whether that be carbon reduction or income inequality. Investment decisions may also be focussed locally, on supporting businesses in their communities. Recent changes in federal law have allowed all people the option to invest in startups through websites like Kickstarter or Kiva. Tom will talk about how much money is now being invested with an intention of making an impact and the future of this new style of investing.
