Three masterful genre-benders and the leading virtuosos on their respective instruments, Béla Fleck, Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyer move with ease among the worlds of classical, bluegrass and world music. Each member of the trio has won international renown as premier musicians in their instrument of choice.
Béla Fleck is a Grammy Award-winning banjoist and founding member of the legendary bluegrass and jazz fusion group, Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. A prolific artist, he has dabbled in multiple genres across his career, from jazz to country to Afropop. Zakir Hussain, a classical tabla virtuoso of the highest order, has established himself as one of the leading percussionists in the world through his consistently brilliant and exciting performances and improvisational dexterity. Composer and double bass player Edgar Meyer, the certified "lord and commander" of the trio, provides the rhythmic backbone to the trio. Meyer's own compositions have won him widespread acclaim throughout the musical world, and his innovations in the field was recognized by a MacArthur Award in 2002.
Three of the most limitless creators and composers in the history of music, Fleck, Hussain and Meyer share an unprecedented array of projects and pairings among them that touch every geographical and stylistic corner of the musical world. Together, they create music that defies categorization, music that can only be described as world-class.
The trio is excited to announce the inclusion of Indian flutist Rakesh Chaurasia. Described by Hussain as "the finest young bamboo flutist of Indian classical music," Chaurasia is a perfect fit for the trio's versatile, cross-cultural sound. Or, as Fleck puts it, Chaurasia is their "frosting on the cake."
