Black Arts Matter Festival: Youth Talent Competition

Head to MYArts for a youth talent competition featuring elementary, middle, and high school students showcasing a variety of art forms.

Taking inspiration from Nina Simone's song, "To Be Young Gifted & Black," join us at MYArts to celebrate a variety of young artists from elementary, middle and high school showcasing their art in a talent competition.

Want to be part of the the Black Arts Matter Youth Talent Competition?

The Black Arts Matter Festival is currently seeking elementary, middle, and high school students for our upcoming talent competition on November 12 at MYArts, 1055 E Mifflin St, Madison, WI 53703 from 2-4 PM.

Submissions are due by October 15 at 11:59pm CST. Acts are accepted on a rolling basis and spots are limited.

Submit an Application

Chosen competitors will be notified by October 20, 2023. Submission does not guarantee admission. Chosen artists will perform during the talent competition and compete only against students in their age group. Elementary students will not compete against high school students.

Judges will choose a winning competitor from each age range to win $500. 

SUBMISSION INFORMATION: 

  • Please prepare a video sharing a talent of your choice and complete the Google submission form.
  • Videos must be no more than 5 minutes.
  • All talents are welcome. Singers, dancers, actors, poets, etc. are encouraged to apply. Even if your talent isn’t necessarily performative, please STILL apply. For example, someone skilled at baking could share their desserts. Painters could present and discuss their recent works. Whatever your talent is, please prepare to present it in front of a panel of judges.
  • For video submissions, please submit footage that demonstrates your talent with clear audio. As
    much as possible, limit ambient noise including air conditioners and other electronics.
  • Group acts are welcome to apply.
