Senegal | 106 minutes | TV-14 | DCP | Dir. Mati Diop
In Dakar, a group of construction workers abandon their work on a skyscraper in response to months of withheld wages. The group then seeks better opportunities as they take to the sea. At the heart of the narrative are lovers Suleiman and Ada who must contend with Ada's betrothal to another man.
"Like the pounding waves that recur throughout, this is a vibrant and confident feature debut for the director, and her arrival on cinema's shores signals big things ahead," - Zaki Hasan, San Francisco Chronicle
"Diop's first feature-set in her father's hometown of Dakar, Senegal unites a wide array of ideas and genres with her intensely sensory artistry," - Richard Brody, New Yorker
