The recipient of ten Grammy Awards and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, trumpeter, pianist and composer extraordinaire Arturo Sandoval is one of the most impressive artists of our time. Born in Cuba and mentored by jazz master Dizzy Gillespie, Sandoval was instrumental in fusing latin influences with American jazz. Sandoval’s natural curiosity and musical versatility has also led him to dabble in the sounds of classical music and rock.
"Born into poverty in Cuba and held back by his government, he risked everything to share his gifts with the world. In the decades since, this astonishing trumpeter, pianist and composer has inspired audiences in every corner of the world and awakened a new generation of great performers. He remains one of the best ever to play.” -Barack Obama (presenting Arturo Sandoval The Presidential Medal of Freedom)
Sandoval will be accompanied by jazz vocalist Jane Monheit. “A voice of phenomenal beauty” (New York Times), Monheit has earned national attention through her uniquely personal interpretations on beloved jazz standards. Her latest album, a collection of covers by her personal icon, Ella Fitzgerald, has been described by the New York Times as “an act of loving homage from one vocalist to another."
