Have you ever wondered why the United States still holds Puerto Rico as a territory? Are you curious about the strategic implications of adopting Hawaii as the 50th state, instead of Japan? Have you ever heard that argument that racism is what kept the United States from becoming a formal global empire? On Thursday, March 25 Phi Alpha Theta and the Society and Politics Committee are proud to host nationally renowned and critically acclaimed Historian, Dr. Daniel Immerwahr from Northwestern University for a discussion on these topics and more. Dr. Immerwahr's work on American territorial and ideological expansion has taken him around the world; from hidden archives to the decaying remnants of failed state projects. Join us for a history of the United States you didn't even know existed. Dr. Immerwahr's works can be found in major newspapers, academic journals and on national best-sellers lists alike. This lecture will be open and free to the public and will begin at 5:30 PM CST. Please come prepared with questions and a readiness to learn! Link below.
