Wheelhouse Studios Launches Interactive Campus Climate Project
Posted: 09/19/16
The Wisconsin Union’s Wheelhouse Studios invites members of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) campus community to participate in its free, interactive campus climate art project called “Shine YOUR Light”.
Through this drop-in project, participants depict their personal commitments to making campus a more positive and inclusive environment on pingpong balls. The depictions can include images, words or a combination of both.
The Wheelhouse Studios team adds each ball to a growing LED light string, turning ordinary pingpong balls into spherical light covers.
Those wanting to participate may visit Wheelhouse Studios on the lower level of Memorial Union from noon to 11 p.m. seven days a week until early November. All materials are provided free of charge.
In early November, Wheelhouse Studios will host a closing ceremony to celebrate and discuss the commitments participants shared.
“Ultimately, all cultural change starts with each individual making a commitment to help create the community that he or she most wants to live in,” said Jay Ekleberry, Wheelhouse Studios director. “The ‘Let YOUR Light Shine’ project allows participants to make their commitments public in an anonymous and artful way.”
Wheelhouse Studios is an open arts studio located in Memorial Union that features three versatile workspaces, drop-in art projects and a variety of other classes and activities for members and guests to enjoy.
