Weekend to include live music, cap-decorating, big sunburst chair photo opportunities
The Wisconsin Union will offer special events and activities as well as photo opportunities to graduating seniors during graduation weekend at Union South and Memorial Union.
The festivities begin on May 9 at 2 p.m. when graduating seniors are invited to decorate their graduation caps at Wheelhouse Studios in Memorial Union’s lower level. Students can also paint with watercolors. Wheelhouse will provide decorations and paint, while supplies last.
Then, on May 10, the weekend festivities pick up at the Memorial Union Terrace where the Ben Ferris Octet will perform a diverse jazz set 5-7 p.m.
The celebration will continue on the Terrace with the award-winning, pop-rock trio Gin, Chocolate and Bottle Rockets. The trio will rock the stage 8-10:30 p.m.
Also, on May 11, the Wisconsin Union will offer graduates free, professional photos with the Union’s big Terrace chair at Union South 9:30-11:30 a.m. The Union will offer the same opportunity at big Terrace chair on the Memorial Union Terrace 2-4:30 p.m. on May 11.
To top off the weekend, R&B and jazz band Kinfolk will take the Terrace stage 9-11:30 p.m. on May 11. The group, known for its diverse musical styles, will play an array of music, such as jazz, R&B, rock and funk.
Also, that day, from noon to 5 p.m., graduating seniors wearing their caps and gowns can bowl for free at Sett Recreation in Union South.
“We are honored to be part of students’ university experiences,” Wisconsin Union Director Mark Guthier said. “We look forward to helping our new alumni and their families celebrate new graduates’ accomplishments.”
