The Wisconsin Union Directorate (WUD) Publications Committee’s Ministry of Magic invites University of Wisconsin-Madison students, faculty, staff and Wisconsin Union members to party with Potter and overindulge in butterbeer at the 8th annual Yule Ball on Friday, Nov. 17.
The ball will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight at Varsity Hall in Union South. Each patron is allowed to buy two tickets at $6 each and must present a valid student, Union membership card or UW ID. Tickets are currently available at the Memorial Union Box Office every weekday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Thursday, Nov. 16.
Yule Ball tickets are valid for attendees arriving at the event from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. After 10 p.m., guests can buy tickets at the door.
This year, different from previous Yule Balls’, the Badger Ballroom Dance team will be brought in to perform to resemble the ballroom dancing portrayed at Yule Ball in the Harry Potter series, volunteer director of Yule Ball Michelle Fernandez said.
“It’s a callback to the books and movies where, for the Yule Ball, characters had to learn how to waltz,” Fernandez said.
Just like the Yule Ball was an event that brought together the three magical schools, Fernandez hopes this year's Yule Ball can bring the UW-Madison student body and Harry Potter fan community together.
“Yule Ball is an excellent event for Harry Potter fans to get together and enjoy a night of Hogwarts-themed festivities,” Fernandez said. “I loved getting dressed for this event and going to this dance with a bunch of other people who share my enthusiasm for Harry Potter.”
The event will also include personalized wand-making, butterbeer and, most importantly, event organizers say the Ball will be a fun and mystical night. Organizers include attendees to wear their best Harry Potter-themed costume or formal attire.
