Memorial Union Terrace
Famous for its vibrant atmosphere and sunburst chairs, the Memorial Union Terrace on Lake Mendota is the popular gathering place for the campus. It’s almost impossible to find a student, graduate or community member without a fond Terrace memory that includes tasty food, lively music, outdoor adventures and a chance encounter with an old friend or new love.
Everyone has a favorite activity, but there are classics that make for a true Terrace experience. So visit the Terrace to meet, eat and see what makes it such an integral part of the community!
Come with friends to hang out, play card games or rent a sailboat from Outdoor Rentals. You can also join Hoofers to meet other outdoor enthusiasts. Or leave your friends at home and bring that book you’re always meaning to read. Even if it remains unread, you will have spent a wonderful day people-watching or catching up with a friend you haven’t seen in years!
No matter who or what you bring – come hungry! The smell of brats sizzling on the Brat Stand’s outdoor grill, the sight of Babcock Ice Cream being scooped at Daily Scoop Deli or a friend’s offer to share a pizza from Lakefront on Langdon will whet anyone’s appetite. To help savor the food, choose from our various cold beverages available at the deli and restaurants including Der Rathskeller.
Before you visit, check our Events Calendar to see what’s happening! During summer, you can listen to music from bands in our Hot Summer Nights series that range from salsa to punk. On Monday nights, you can just relax and watch a movie on the big screen.
There are countless more Terrace activities – but you’ll have to visit to meet, eat and see for yourself! And to keep your Terrace memories from fading during winter, get a keepsake from the Essentials store or online at the Terrace Store.
