The Wisconsin Union

Who are we?

The Distinguished Lecture Series (DLS) is a well-established Union tradition. Our committee is responsible for an annual series of 7 to 10 high-profile speakers, which we select from audience nominations. We seek to represent a diverse set of views, and we are especially interested in challenging current norms and ideals. Past speakers have included Richard Dawkins, Al Sharpton, and David Suzuki.

But there's more! We also coordinate an annual Spotlight series featuring cutting-edge and frequently-overlooked experts on a variety of subjects. And this year Spotlight will feature several young, prominent UW alumni to partake in a new DLS series, "UW and Beyond: Living the Wisconsin Idea." That's not to mention the panel discussions we'll be hosting in advance of the November 2008 election, or our end-of-year "Last Lecture Series" featuring some of UW's most beloved professors. There has never been a more exciting time to be a DLS committee member.

Make DLS the highlight of your college experience. All students are welcome to join our committee -- no experience or application necessary. See our FAQ for more information.
