General Information Hours
The Craftshop and all its work areas are open EVERY DAY from the first day of classes through the last class day of each semester. DAILY HOURS are 2pm – 11pm Sunday thru Thursday and 2pm – 1am Friday and Saturday. For efficiency’s sake the Craftshop will practice a “soft closing time” during these hours. If no one is using the Craftshop at 10pm S-W or 11:30pm R-S we will close early for the night. The Craftshop is closed during holiday and semester break periods. When a Mini--Course is in session, that particular area is closed to other users. Open hours for each area are posted as soon as Mini-Course class schedules are determined. Mini-Courses run in five-week blocks, twice a semester, and once during the summer session. Please note the class start time and clean up so that everyone is out in time for the Mini-Course to start.
Membership Information
To purchase a permit to use the Craftshop, you must be a currently registered UW student, Wisconsin Union member, UW faculty or staff member. Proper identification must be shown. The Craftshop is organized as an adult facility. People under the age of 18 are allowed only as registered UW students or students enrolled in one of the special Mini Courses or Outreach programs using the Craftshop.
Craftshop Permits
Permits are available as either hourly or semester. Halfway through every semester half semester permits are available at a reduced rate. Hourly permits are not counted toward the price of a semester permit. A Craftshop permit allows use of all areas of the Craftshop.
Use of the woodshop requires completing a short written safety test or enrollment in a woodworking Mini Course. The test may be taken any time during regular Craftshop hours.

Each user must present a current Craftshop permit and sign in and sign out each time they
use the Craftshop. This rule applies to EVERYONE/EVERYTIME using the Craftshop, including
Mini-Course participants and instructors. The Union needs to have a continual and complete record of Craftshop usage.
Tools
Tools and equipment must be checked out with a valid ID, such as a driver's license or student ID card. The person checking equipment out is responsible for that equipment. The cost to fix or replace equipment lost or damaged through misuse will be charge to the person responsible. IDs will be given back upon return of undamaged tools and equipment. NO TOOLS OR EQUIPMENT ARE TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THE CRAFTSHOP. NO EXCEPTIONS. CLEAN UP
Each area of the Craftshop requires special care. CS users are expected to clean up after themselves. This means stopping work early enough to do a thorough cleaning job before it is time to leave. Equipment must be put away in its proper place. Clean all work surfaces, including the floor. Permits may be revoked if proper clean up is not done.
Project and Materials Storage
Only current Craftshop permit holders may store materials and/or projects in process in the Craftshop. All wood materials and projects must have completed storage tags attached. All storage areas are cleaned out at the end of each semester. As a convenience, materials and projects may be stored between semesters for a $5.00 fee. Storage fees must be paid BEFORE the end of each semester, and the owner must purchase a new Craftshop permit within the first 2 WEEKS of the next semester. NO EXCEPTIONS. Any materials or projects left in the Craftshop that do not comply with these rules becomes property of the Craftshop or is tossed.
Supplies
Some supplies are for sale through the Craftshop. Some items such as clay you must purchase from the Craftshop as the price includes glazing and firing costs. Other items that are stocked are dyes for batik, clay tool kits, sandpaper, wood glue, wood screws, jointer biscuits, dust masks, glass cutters, cutting oil, jewelry saw blades, negative sleeves, and much more, so please ask. Our prices are lower than local stores. Check out our price list here.
